WORSHIP SERVICE FOR JANUARY 21, 2024
WELCOME
OPENING PRAYER
Loving God, you have so made us that we cannot live by bread alone; but by every word that
proceeds from your mouth. Give us a hunger for your Word, and in that food satisfy our daily
need; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

CALL TO WORSHIP
L – Break us open to disclose how brokenness can heal, wherever broken loaves suffice to give a
crowd a meal.
C – and graves break open to release new life from death’s dread seal.
L – Give us to the world you love as light and salt and yeast, that we may nourish in your name, the
last, the lost, the least
C – until at length you call us all to your unending feast.
*HYMN No. 301 Let Us Build a House

*CALL TO RECONCILIATION
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But, if we confess our sins,
God, who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In
humility and faith let us confess our sin to God.

*CONFESSION OF SIN
Eternal God, our judge and redeemer, we confess that we have tried to hide from you, for we
have done wrong. We have lived for ourselves, and apart from you. We have turned from
our neighbors, and refused to hear the burdens of others. We have ignored the pain of the
world, and passed by the hungry, the poor and the oppressed. In your great mercy forgive
our sins and free us from selfishness, that we may choose your will and obey your
commandments; through Jesus Christ our Savior.
SILENCE – Amen

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Hear the good news! Who is in a position to condemn? Only Christ, and Christ died for us,
Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us. Anyone who is in Christ is a
new creation, The old life has gone, a new life has begun. Know that you are forgiven and be at
peace Amen

*RESPONSE No.. 726 V. 1 Will You Come and Follow Me
Will you come and follow me, if I but call your name?
Will you go where you don’t know and never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown, will you let my name be known?
Will you let my life be grown in you, and you in me?
*PASSING OF THE PEACE OF CHRIST
Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ
be with you.
And also with you

We believe there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus; for we know that all
things work together for good for those who love God; who are called according to God’s
purpose. We are convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things
present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen
