OPENING PRAYER St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where
there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there
is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.
O divine master, grant that I may not seek so much to be consoled as to console; to be
understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in
pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

PRELUDE
CALL TO WORSHIP HYMN No. 761 v. 4
So God grant us for tomorrow ways to order human life,
That surround each person’s sorrow with a calm that conquers strife
Make us partners in our living our compassion to increase
Messengers of faith, thus giving hope and confidence and peace.

*HYMN No. 301 Let Us Build a House
Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live
a place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive.
Built of hopes and dreams and visions, rock of faith and vault of grace
here the love of Christ shall end divisions; all are welcome, all are welcome all are welcome in this
place

Let us build a house where prophets speak, and words are strong and true,
where all God’s children dare to seek to dream God’s reign anew
Here the cross shall stand as witness and as symbol of God’s grace. Here as one we claim the
faith of Jesus, all are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where love is found in water, wine and wheat, a banquet hall on Holy ground
where peace and justice meet Here the love of God through Jesus, is revealed in time and space
as we share in Christ the feast that frees us, all are welcome, all are welcome,
all are welcome in this place

Let us build a house where hands will reach beyond the wood and stone,
to heal and strengthen, serve and teach, and live the Word they’ve known
Here the outcast and the stranger, bear the image of God’s face; let us bring an end to fear and danger
all are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where all are named, their songs and visions heard, loved and treasured,
taught and claimed as words within the Word

Built of tears and cries and laughter, prayers of faith and songs of grace,
Let this song proclaim from floor to rafter,
all are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place

*CALL TO CONFESSION
Remember that our Lord Jesus can sympathize with us in our weaknesses, since in every respect he
was tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with boldness approach the throne of grace, that
we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Let us confess our sins against God
and neighbor.

*CONFESSION OF SIN
Eternal God, our judge and redeemer, we confess that we have tried to hide from you, for we
have done wrong. We have lived for ourselves, and apart from you. We have turned from
our neighbors and refused to bear the burdens of others. We have ignored the pain of the
world, and passed by the hungry, the poor, and the oppressed. In your great mercy forgive
our sins and free us from selfishness, that we may choose your will and obey your
commandments; through Jesus Christ our savior.
(SILENT CONFESSION)

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

The mercy of the lord is from everlasting to everlasting. I declare to you, in the name of Jesus
Christ, you are forgiven. May the God of mercy, who forgives you all your sins, strengthen you in
all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

*RESPONSE No. 647 Give Thanks

*THE PEACE OF CHRSIT
Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. May the peace of Jesus Christ be
with you all
And also with you. Amen

*HYMN No. 726 Will You Come and Follow Me
Will you come and follow me if I but call your name
Will you go where you don’t know and never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown, will you let my name be know;
will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?
Will you leave yourself behind, if I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare should your life attract or scare?
Will you let me answer prayer in you and you in me?
Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name?
Will you set the prisoners free and never be the same?
Will you kiss the leper clean, and do such as this unseen,
and admit to what I mean in you and you in me?
Will you love the you, you hide if I but call your name?
Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same?
Will you use the faith you’ve found to reshape the world around
through my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me?
Lord, your summons echoes true when you but call my name
Let me turn and follow you and never be the same.
In your company I’ll go where your love and footsteps show
Thus I’ll move and live and grow in you and you in me.

PRAYER OF DEDICATION
*HYMN No. 340 This Is My Song
This is my song, O God of all the nation, a song of peace for lands afar and mine.
This is my home, the country where my hearts’ here are my hope, my dreams my Holy shrine
but other hearts in other lands are beating, with hope and dreams as true and high as mine
My country’s skies are bluer than the ocean, and sunlight beams on clover leaf and pine.
But other lands have sunlight too, and clover; and skies are everywhere as blue as mine
So hear my song, O God of all the nations, a song of peace, for their land and for mine
This is my prayer, O Lord of all earth’s kingdoms, thy kingdom come on earth, thy will be done.
Let Christ be lifted up till all shall serve him, and hearts united learn to live as one.
So hear my prayer, O God of all the nation, myself I give thee; let thy will be done.
