In order to do this it meant reading through the minutes of Session, Trustees and Deacons; as well as Congregational Reports. What is listed is only a sampling but we hope it triggers some memories and provides a framework for looking back over this past quarter of a century. We decided to simply do it in chronological form. One thing the committee and the staff felt strongly about was that, important as it is to look back in this historical year; it is much more important for us as a church to look forward to where we are headed and how best we can serve God in our worship and ministries. 1997 The church school is under the direction of Timi Smith, with assistant director Linda Morgan. Clerk of Session is Emma Mustard. We sponsored a mission to the Holy Lands and began to raise money to build a new chapel for the hospital in Haiti. Our Financial Secretaries were Jane Cummins and Kathi Lynch; the Hostess was Beverly Rosell and Diane Jacob was hired as Church Secretary. 1998 Associate Pastor Cindy Karis leaves for a new calling. There are specific groups open for adults to join in order to be in communion and fellowship with a smaller group of people. Whether it is a Small Group, a Bible Study group, or Sunday morning Adult classes, there is sure to be something for everyone! Small Groups Small Groups are an experience of Christian fellowship in a group where everyone knows your name, where the learning is fun, and where people grow in faith and discipleship with others. Current Small Groups include a twice-a month men’s group, four weekly adult groups, and a group of adults who meet Sunday mornings. For more information about specific groups or about starting a new group, contact Kristen Franchetti. Bible Studies/Adult Classes There is an adult class that meets every Sunday morning at 11:00 AM all year. Each quarter there are also one or more electives offered, depending on the season (Advent, Lent, an Inquirer’s class in the spring and fall, and Bereavement classes). For more information on Adult Groups, contact Kristen Franchetti, Director of Christian Education, at kristen. franchetti@pcwoodbury. com --- - Published: 2025-04-01 - Modified: 2025-11-09 - URL: https://pcwoodbury.com/get-connected/music-ministries/ Music has always been a cherished part of worship at The Presbyterian Church at Woodbury. Each service is filled with music that uplifts the spirit and brings us closer together. Our Adult Choir brings beautiful, high-quality choral music to life, drawing from a variety of meaningful liturgical styles. We're blessed with a stunning 35-rank Schantz Pipe Organ and a lovely Boston Grand Piano—both of which add richness to our worship experience. We’re a singing congregation, and our traditional hymns are often moving and joy-filled. While we honor our musical heritage, we're also excited to explore new music that inspires and connects us. Every Sunday, many leave with a smile—and a song in their heart! If you’ve got joy in your heart and would like to add your voice to our choir, see Jack Hill after church or email him at jack. hill@pcwoodbury. com --- - Published: 2025-04-01 - Modified: 2025-11-09 - URL: https://pcwoodbury.com/get-connected/gwcm/ The Greater Woodbury Cooperative MinistriesThe Greater Woodbury Cooperative Ministries is a joint effort by 13 Faith Communities to serve people within our area. The group is responsible for managing the financial assets as well as the physical assets of the church. Members are asked to represent the congregation on various church committees as needed. This is done primarily by having each Trustee assigned to various sub-committees that address items such as: Heating/AC/Plumbing/Utilities, Church Buildings (Church, Chapel, Christian Education wing), Margaret’s House, Cemetery, Budget, Insurance, Memorial Fund Investment, Nominating, Personnel, and Stewardship. Monthly reports regarding the activities of each sub-committee are then given at the Trustees monthly meeting. Trustees are an elected office. Each Elder serves a 3-year term and may serve 6 consecutive years. The Session meets on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00 PM to conduct the business of the church. Virtually every decision in the church on a policy level has to be approved by Session. Within the Session are a number of Standing Committees: Personnel, Investment Strategy, and Nominating. They are chaired by Elders but may include non-Elders as well. Elders also chair the various Task Forces: Christian Education, Worship and Spiritual Life, Outreach and Membership, Mission and Interpretation, Stewardship, and Youth. While there are at least 2 Elders on each Task Force, the balance of each Task Force is made up of members of the church. The Session interviews the members of the Youth Confirmation Class as well as anyone wishing to join our church. The Pastor serves as the moderator of Session. A Clerk of Session is elected each year to conduct the clerical duties of the Board. Our Coordinator, Kristen Connell-Franchetti, brings energy and creativity to the programming for all ages, especially children. Sunday school is offered during the months of September through May. The children leave for Sunday school after the Children’s message. The children’s message is early in the worship service; the children are invited to come up to the front pew for a faith message prepared just for them. After the message, children in kindergarten through fifth grade will then leave for Sunday school. We also have multiple opportunity for adult Christian education. There is one main class for adult education that meets 10 months out of the year. We also offer special classes during Advent and Lenten season. There are also several opportunities to join a bible study group which we have several offered through the year. Should you have any questions on the education programs, please email Kristen at church. office@pcwoodbury. com. --- - Published: 2025-02-08 - Modified: 2025-11-09 - URL: https://pcwoodbury.com/get-connected/womens-association/ The Women’s Association of The Presbyterian Church at Woodbury exists as a mission group of the church. At the meetings, the women tie quilts for distribution to children with AIDS and for shut-ins, roll bandages for use overseas, wrap shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, etc. The women sponsor church-wide Rummage Sales twice a year, using the money raised for Scholarships for graduating high school seniors from the church. They also hold an ice cream social in September, a women’s tea party, and a spring picnic. A group with a long history, the women have worked quietly behind the scenes to make the church a comfortable place to worship and visit by buying furniture, dishes and silverware, tables, and other items for use by church groups. PRELUDE SILENT PRAYER OF PREPARATION St. Francis of Assisi Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon, where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in ding that we are born to eternal life. Amen CALL TO WORSHIP Hymn 754 Help Us Accept Each Other v. 2 Teach us, O Lord, your lessons as in our daily life We struggle to be human and search for hope and faith. Teach us to care for people, for all, not just for some. Thus we beginon that path today. I would ask that you read the silent prayer of preparation during our prelude.
